Relaunched Titles:
HOCKEY NEWS--(hockey) This venerable newspaper/magazine has restarted U.S. distribution.
STREET & SMITH ANNUALS--(sports) Many of you have been wondering where the Street & Smith titles have gone (i.e. Baseball, Football, College Football, Pro Basketball, College Basketball). Well, according to a press release, STREET & SMITH's and SPORTING NEWS have become one. American City Business Journals Inc., S & S's parent company, purchased SPORTING NEWS in late 2007. Both titles have merged into one, using the SPORTING NEWS name. The "new" yearbooks will be a blend of the best of STREET & SMITH'S, America's oldest sports annuals, and SPORTING NEWS. annuals.
SCIENCE ILLUSTRATED--(science) According to Media Week, Bonnier Corp., publisher of POPULAR SCIENCE, "is betting that the time is right for a science magazine that translates computer science and research subject matter for the masses." The bimonthly English version of Bonnier's Scandinavian science magazine, will debut at the end of 2007.
VICTORIA--(home) Hoffman Media will relaunch the much-beloved (and popular) VICTORIA magazine in late October 2007 with the November/December 2007 issue. According to their website, Victoria was "created for all who love the timeless appeal of romantic fashions, heritage linens, charming homes, gracious gardens, unique decorative touches and all that is beautiful in life."
BECKETT RACING --(trading cards/collectibles) This title returns as a quarterly.
AMERICAN HERITAGE--(history) This title, which folded in May 2007 after a 50-year run, returns as a quarterly.
RADAR--(general interest) This magazine has more lives than a cat! Resurrected yet again, RADAR MAGAZINE, started four years ago by Editor-in-chief Maer Roshan, covers pop culture, politics, celebrities and style. Their website, radaronline.com, launched last September, has over one million hits a month.
YANKEE--(regional) This New England institution, published since 1935, gets a makeover with the Jan/Feb 2007 issue. First of all, the frequency changes from 10 times per year to 6. The other issues will be a Nov-Dec "holidays" themed issue and four other seasonal issues. Also, the biggest change will be visual. It will no longer be published in digest-sized, but rather a full-size magazine. In fact, YANKEE started as a full-size mag but cut back to digest-sized during World War II because of paper rationing.
CAR KULTURE DELUXE---(automotive) This hot rod magazine, which folded last year, had a loyal following, but poor distribution, among its other problems, forced its demise. Now retooled and bought by Koolhouse Publishing, the publsihers of the wildly successful OL' SKOOL RODZ, CAR KULTURE DELUXE makes a comeback. Planning on a bimonthy schedule, the mag's tagline is "Pre-1968 hots rods, kustoms, gassers, pin-ups, kustom music, art and car shows."Publisher Gene DiPol says that "CAR KULTURE DELUXE has always been a magazine for people who are completely eaten-up with hot rods, kustom cars and the kulture that surrounds them." Look for this to continue......09/17
HEART & SOUL--(health and fitness) The pre-eminent vibrant living and wellness magazine for African American returns with new owners. Look for the revamped title near EBONY and JET.---10/17
